Cogility was proud to be a Platinum sponsor at the ninth Insider Summit in Monterey, California, March 18-20. In addition to interacting with attendees at the Cogility booth, we had a great opportunity to share the results of our research and development in a presentation given by Dr. Frank Greitzer, Chief Behavioral Scientist at Cogility.
Andrew Davis, Head of Product at Cogility, provides his observations after participating in this event:
This Year We See a Growing Private Sector Participation
Over the past three years we’ve attended this summit, we’ve seen growing participation from the private sector. Initially, there was a major focus on countering insider threat within the federal government, with just a handful of private-sector companies participating. The federal government’s recent travel restrictions, and the flying distance from DC to the West Coast location of IS9, may have contributed to an increase in participation of private sector attendees from a range of business sectors, not only from the technology industry but also financial, pharmaceutical, critical infrastructure, and more. The private sector is particularly interested in preventing intellectual property theft and leaked communications.
We Applaud the Growing Demand for the “Whole Person” Approach
I noticed more speakers mention the need for a whole person approach. It seems like many more are aware that User Activity Monitoring (UAM) is only one component of an Insider Risk Management (IRM) program and is not enough on its own. Even when UAM is coupled with data loss prevention (DLP) and/or endpoint protection, this is still just a fraction of what customers need to achieve a whole-person approach.
I think this is where Cogynt shines: Cogynt can calculate risk scores using both technical risk indicators found in UAM, DLP, and endpoint protection providers as well as behavioral risk indicators found in HRIS and law enforcement.
Cogynt also features a fully integrated case management system to power analyst investigations and assessments as well as a business intelligence dashboard for program managers. Finally, Cogynt’s no-code Authoring Tool allows customers to configure a model that will deliver the insights and risk scores they need. This integrated suite of capabilities is what customers need to power a fully comprehensive whole-person IRM solution.
Finally, I expect that customer demand for the whole person approach will grow and will force providers to either ramp up development or acquire other companies to augment their offerings so they can support a whole-person approach whereas Cogynt already provides this.
